Wild Man (white print) 2/10.
2011 – wood block print with watercolour on paper.
Blue and white woodcut print of a man’s 3/4 profile
This is the second of an edition of 10 woodblock prints made in 2011.
Rather than using block printing ink, the carved block was soaked in watercolour paint and used to print the image. The use of as a loose medium as watercolour for printing offsets the graphic sensibility of the block printing process, creating an underlying tension in the way the work was made. It also means that each print appears slightly different to another.
The man’s image is suggested rather than closely rendered with fine detail. Using only blue and white brings a quiet calm to the work’s otherwise graphic, poster-like quality.
It contrasts with the red-stencilled version of this image, which is visually louder.
Will be sent mounted (A5) and unframed.
